After many years working as a scene painter in the theatre I am now working for myself as an artist/printmaker. My starting point is predominantly monoprint and etching. I then often overprint, tear up, collage, draw onto and restructure the work, sometimes over a long period. My preferred materials are thin aluminium, which is brittle, and steel; they can disintegrate and rust which is an addition to the unpredictability of the outcome. The natural flux and regeneration of landscape and objects intuitively affect my work.
Drawing is also a bedrock of my practice, and I have for years been a member of life drawing groups. It allows for freedom to experiment and explore without criticism or judgement. The first one I joined in 2009 was The Didsbury Drawing Group and I have never had the chance to thank them for their warmth and inclusivity and opening a door, so ‘thank you’!
