I now think my arts practice began around the age of six, with the gift of a jumbo-sized set of many hued watercolour paints, followed by the first challenges of Junior School art projects.
A Textile Design degree at Manchester Polytechnic in the late 1970’s, included three years of weekly life drawing classes offering an approach to looking, drawing and design. Life drawing has become a sustained discipline and supporting element to my professional visual arts path.
Joining Didsbury Drawing during the Village Hall period, I found an established, concentrated working atmosphere which I have helped to support by involvement in exhibition planning and the design of publicity material.
A valued element of the life drawing sessions, is the regular opportunity and challenge for an individual to direct the poses and work freely with the life model, who in-turn may gain some freedom for expression in response.
