Didsbury drawing group became an extension of my drawing practice after completing an MA in Textiles from Manchester Metropolitan University.
The connection with textiles has allowed me to focus on how both cloth and the body can define emotion through line stitch and texture.
My drawing lends itself to a free and expressive style that has a quality akin to mark making. Materials such as graphite, linseed oil and paint give a blended surface that can be drawn into. Using my left hand or drawing with eyes closed allows me to ‘feel’ the drawing gaining a more stylised approach.
I like to extenuate the emotion of the drawing by adding cloth and thread, overlapping and layering, creating a three-dimensional approach.
The Class gives all artists the chance to direct the model on a rotational basis which allows each of us freedom of expression
